National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)

Per the NICE website, “Clinical guidelines are recommendations on the appropriate treatment and care of people with specific diseases and conditions within the NHS in England and Wales. Clinical guidelines are based on the best available evidence. Guidelines help healthcare professionals in their work, but they do not replace their knowledge and skills.

  1. *Clinical Guidelines on Anxiety  The review date listed on the NICE website for these guidelines is Dec 2008, however this has not yet been updated as of March ‘09.

  2. *Clinical Guidelines on Depression 'NICE' questions counselling as a treatment for depression. As the guideline stands, it recommends CBT and interpersonal psychotherapy as first line treatments. BACP is very concerned about the proposed revisions to the guideline and we will be making a robust response. We urge members to read the consultation document and respond via BACP's consultation process as BACP is a registered stakeholder. Click here for the consultation. If you have any comments, please send them to suky.khele@bacp.co.uk by 6 April 2009 (quoted from the BACP website).
