Skills for Health (SfH)

SfH background:   “Skills for Health (SfH) are developing National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Psychological Therapies. The development of NOS in this area will make a timely and significant contribution to a number of UK initiatives in this area.


  1. *Wednesday 8 April 2009:  SfH Reference Group Meeting entitled, 'Developing a Career Framework for Psychological Therapists' will take place at the Hilton Hotel Euston starting at 10am and finishing at 3.30pm.  The meeting will be chaired by  Roslyn Hope, IAPT Workforce Director and Joint Chair, New Ways of Working for Psychological Therapies Group and  Jeremy Clarke, National Advisor to IAPT and Joint Chair, New Ways of Working for Psychological Therapies Group. The project will focus on the delivery of Psychological Therapy and will focus on four therapy areas covering adults and children as follows:


  1. *Humanistic Person-centred / Process Experiential Modality”  The Integrative Modality falls into this category. SfH notified us on 27 February that they are still recruiting test sites for the Humanistic Person-centred/Process Experiential modality.

  2. *However testing is not due to start until May/June. If you or your organisation would be interested in participating as a test site, email us so that your details may be forwarded on.

  3. *Psychodynamic Psychoanalytic Therapy: the draft NOS for Psychodynamic Psychoanalytic Therapy are available on the website for comment. Visit www.skillsforhealth.org.uk/psychologicaltherapies where you may view the draft NOS by clicking on the Documents tab. You are able to feed back via the online consultation – details are on the project page.

  4. *Systemic and Family Therapy

  5. *Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (consultation process closed 01.10.08)


The timetable is:

Scoping and consultation completed in March 2007

Milestone 1 – Draft NOS for two therapy areas – March 2008

Milestone 2 – Draft NOS for two further therapy areas -May 2009

Milestone 3 - Project Completion – October 2009
